TRAINING CLASS DESCRIPTION
The 2017 Gate River Run Class is a nine week
program preparing individuals to participate in the Gate River Run on March 11, 2017. The class starts on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 1st Place Sports, Town Center Store (4870 Big Island Drive) at 6:15 PM (come prepared for a short run that evening).
YOUR RUNNING LEVEL
Most participants will progress towards completing the entire 15k running, but others may prefer a walk/run combination to complete the race. It is recommended that you be running or walk/running three times per week for two to three weeks preceding the class start date. Please take it slow and easy if you are not currently training.
The program will accommodate all levels of runners, so everyone is encouraged to participate in the training class. Pace groups will be formed to complete training runs at 17 minutes per mile and faster. You will be encouraged and assisted to tailor your training program to fit your specific fitness level, time constraints and running goals.
The class will meet every Tuesday starting Jan. 10 at 6:15 PM for a group run. We will conduct a short group discussion and depart for a training run at 6:30 – 6:35 PM. The Tuesday location is on the River Walk near the Yates YMCA in Riverside.
We will meet Saturdays (dates listed below) at 7:00 AM for Formal long group run in varying locations throughout the Jacksonville area: Downtown, Ortega, Orange Park, San Marco and Fleming Island:

Being present at any particular training event or day is not a requirement to benefit from the class but be prepared to train 4-5 times per week for a significant benefit.

TRAINING CLASS COACH
The class is conducted by Jennifer DeSantis who
has been a participant and pace leader for the past 3 years. She is a fitness coach who has worked with people of all levels training for various events. She has raced numerous races from 5Ks (3.1) to Marathons (26.2) across the country. In addition to Jennifer, there will be pace leaders providing additional guidance and encouragement.
Save money by registering and paying online. There is no fee for credit/debit card payment online. Participants in the 2016 Gate River Run and Fall Half Marathon Classes have been emailed $5 discount codes for entry in this class.
