    This morning event occurs between 6:00 am and 7:00 am on Wednesdays.

    Members attending this event are required to observe existing Bolles School visitors’ rules (comportment, COVID and/or other requirements) during their stay.  

    You must be a registered member of JTC Running prior to registering for the Bolles Wednesday Morning Workout Group event.

    Registration for the morning event must be completed online at least 18 hours prior to the event in order to be listed on the interval event roster when you arrive at the school. The registration is good for all remaining weeks of the year, ending in December.  Persons who are not on the morning event roster will not be permitted on the track.  

    This group meets Wednesdays between 5:30 and 6:00 am on the Bolles track to sign in and warm up. Track workouts begin on the track at 6:00 am. 

    You may be asked for your Drivers’ License by the Bolles entrance security guard prior to any morning's workout. The security guard might scan your Drivers’ License through the Raptor program (a sexual predator data base) to be sure you meet security requirements.

    Park in the parking lot close the chain link fence on the south end of the big parking lot (take the 2nd left turn inside the campus; the baseball field will be adjacent on the left as you drive into the lot). Walk from there to the track; the bright stadium lights will show the way. The parking spaces are assigned to students or staff, but we have permission to park there as long as we vacate the area by 7:20 am.  Please be ready to depart the campus by then. 

    Warm up runs generally take place on the Bolles Track, running clockwise on the outer lanes prior to 6:00 am. Cooldown runs may also be done on the track.   

    Meet with the coach on the track not later than 6:00 am. A JTC Running track administrator should be there with a check-in sheet for you to initial. The administrator will inform you of any new or expected changes in campus rules or procedures, matters related to members and events, then give a description of the intervals. Runners may place personal items such as hydration, towels, masks, etc. along the fence near the starting line.  Rest rooms are available under the stadium seating area.

    Please note that the workouts are geared towards adults. Registrants age fifteen and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during the session.

    TRAINING CLASS DESCRIPTION

    The Fall 2021 Half Marathon Class is a 11-week
    program preparing individuals to participate in a
    half marathon this fall. The class starts on Thursday,
    September 9, 2021 outside 1st Place Sports, Baymeadows Store at 6:15 PM (come prepared for a short run that evening after a brief introduction). Masks and social distancing are recommended for all runners until the start of the run. Please note that this may change during the class and we will do what we can to keep everyone safe.

    The class can serve as a stepping stone for those planning to complete a marathon in December or January. The target half marathon is the Community First Thanksgiving Half Marathon on November 25, 2021.

    YOUR RUNNING LEVEL

    Most participants will progress towards completing the entire half marathon running, but others may prefer a walk/run combination to complete the race. It is recommended that you be running or walk/running three times per week for two to three weeks preceding the class start date. Please take it slow and easy if you are not currently training.

    The program will accommodate all levels of runners, so everyone is  encouraged to participate in the training class. Pace groups will be formed to complete training runs at 15 minutes per mile and faster. You will be encouraged and assisted to tailor your training program to fit your specific fitness level, time constraints and running goals.

    GROUP RUNS
    The class will meet every Tuesday for group runs and Saturdays for long runs throughout the training schedule. Be prepared to train 4-5 times per week for a significant benefit. Tuesdays we will meet at 6:15 PM for a group discussion/guest speaker and depart for a training run at 6:30 PM. The Tuesday meeting location is on the River Walk near the Winston Family YMCA in Riverside, except for the first class on Thursday, September 9th.   

    We will meet Saturdays at 7 AM starting September 11th and for a long group run in varying locations throughout the Jacksonville area: Downtown, Ortega, Nocatee, San Marco, Riverside, Orange Park and the Beaches area.  Being present at any particular training event or day is not a requirement to benefit from the class.

    TRAINING CLASS COACH

    The class is conducted by Jennifer DeSantis.  She is a certified Level 1 RRCA Running Coach and a Certified Personal Trainer who has worked with people of all levels training for various events. She has raced numerous races from 5Ks (3.1) to Marathons (26.2) across the country. In addition to Jennifer,  there will be pace group leaders providing additional guidance and encouragement.

    Pace Leaders are a critical part of JTC Running's training classes. They lead a number of training class participants on the Tuesday and Saturday class runs and are expected to:

    1.  Be present and on time for the Tuesday night runs (start time: 6:05pm short warmup, 6:15pm group chat, 6:30pm run time) and the Saturday Long Runs (7am start).

    2.  If you are unable to attend a training run, please email/call/text Jennifer with at least 24 hours notice, if possible. 

    3.  If you are unable to attend a training run, please have someone fill in for you if your pace group does not have another leader.

    4.  Do your best to keep your group together.  If someone is falling behind, please do your best to ensure everyone reaches the final destination safely.  You might need to run between the 2 groups or send the group on if there is someone who knows the way :-)

    5.  Be flexible and patient.

    6.  Stick to the course routes the best you can.  

    7.  Communicate with Jennifer if there are things that need to be addressed in a timely manner. 

    8.  Follow the guidelines for social distancing according to the local government and JTC. 

    Individuals selected will be given a one year extension on their JTC Running membership from the starting date of the class, Sept. 9, 2021.

    45th ANNUAL THE LAST GASP

    About The Race: Begun in December 1977 as an English-style true cross-country race, our 5k competition has become renowned for its unique, challenging course on the campus of Jacksonville University. This year is the 45th Last Gasp, and to celebrate the entry fee for members who pre-register is just $9! Spikes may be worn.


    Entry Fees through 12/26: JTC Running members online $9. Members paper entry fee, $11. Non-members online, $30; paper $32. Non-member fee includes one year membership in JTC running, a $20 value.

    About The Club: Originally named The Jacksonville Track Club, JTC Running began on October 27, 1975. Since that day we have been dedicated to the betterment of our sport, be it cross-country, road or track. Our events include, the Gate River Run, Tijuana Flats Summer Beach Run, The Guana Back to Nature Trail Races, The Winter Beach Run, a quality Track Meet Series and The Last Gasp. Our club is “over the hill” now and we want everyone to stay after the race and help us celebrate this important landmark. The party is free and open to all. You must be present in order to win one of the many cash raffle prizes.

Pace groups will be formed to complete training runs at 14 minutes per mile and faster. You will be encouraged and assisted to tailor your training program to fit your specific fitness level, time constraints and running goals.

    GROUP RUNS

    Tuesdays:

    The class will meet every Tuesday at 6:30 PM for a group run. There will be a group discussion at 6:15pm and then  the groups will take off at 6:30pm for the run. The Tuesday location is on the River Walk near the Winston Family YMCA in Riverside.

She has raced numerous races from 5Ks (3.1) to Marathons (26.2) across the country.  Her mission is to help you become a stronger, confident athlete so you can reach your running goals.  Alex is working towards her RRCA Certification and is a marathon runner.  Alex has served as a Pace Leader and is excited to step into this new role as Coach.  In addition to the coaches, there will be pace leaders providing additional guidance and encouragement.
