    This group meets Wednesdays at 5:30 pm for track and distance workouts.

     

    You must present your Drivers’ License to the Bolles security guard for security purposes prior to your first workout. The security guard will run your Drivers’ License through the Raptor program (a sexual predator data base). Please allow 10 minutes for processing.


    Warm up and cool down runs will take place on San Jose Blvd and the Bolles campus. Please stay with your group; departing from the established route is not permitted.


    Please note that the workouts are geared towards adults. Registrants age fifteen and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times during the session.

    Pace Leaders are a critical part of JTC Running's training classes. They lead a number of training class participants on the Tuesday and Saturday class runs and are expected to:

    1.  Be present and on time for the Tuesday night runs (start time: 6:15 short presentation - 6:30 run time) and the formal long runs (dates listed below).

    2.  If you are unable to attend a training run, please email/call/text Jennifer with at least 24 hours notice, if possible. 

    3.  If you are unable to attend a training run, please have someone fill in for you if your pace group does not have another leader.

    4.  Do your best to keep your group together.  If someone is falling behind, please do your best to ensure everyone reaches the final destination safely.  You might need to run between the 2 groups or send the group on if there is someone who knows the way :-)

    5.  Be flexible and patient.

    6.  Stick to the course routes the best you can.  

    7.  You will not be required to attend the informal runs, but I hope you are able to participate in most of them.

    8.  Communicate with Jennifer if there are things that need to be addressed in a timely manner.

    Individuals selected will be given a one year extension on their JTC Running membership from the starting date of the class, Sept. 7, 2017, and a entry into the Thanksgiving Half Marathon for $30.

    Hurricane Special: Early Registration Extended Through Sept. 19!

    TRAINING CLASS DESCRIPTION

    The Fall 2017 Half Marathon Class is a 12-week
    program preparing individuals to participate in a
    half marathon this fall. The class starts on Thursday,
    September 7, 2017 at 1st Place Sports, Town Center
    Store (4870 Big Island Drive) at 6:30 PM (come prepared for a short run that evening).

    The class can serve as a stepping stone for those planning to complete a marathon in December or January. The target half marathon is the Subaru Distance Classic Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017. If not able to participate on Thanksgiving Day, a good alternate half marathon would be the Ameris Bank Half Marathon on December 16, 2017.


    YOUR RUNNING LEVEL
    Most participants will progress towards completing the entire half marathon running, but others may prefer a walk/run combination to complete the race. It is recommended that you be running or walk/running three times per week for two to three weeks preceding the class start date. Please take it slow and easy if you are not currently training.

    The program will accommodate all levels of runners, so everyone is  encouraged to participate in the training class. Pace groups will be formed to complete training runs at 16 minutes per mile and faster. You will be encouraged and assisted to tailor your training program to fit your specific fitness level, time constraints and running goals.


    GROUP RUNS
    The class will meet every Tuesday for group runs and selected Saturdays for long runs throughout the training schedule. Be prepared to train 4-5 times per week for a significant benefit. Tuesday we will meet at 6:15 PM, conduct a group discussion and depart for a training run at 6:30 PM. The Tuesday meeting location is on the River Walk near the Yates YMCA in Riverside, except for the first class.

    We will meet Saturdays at 7 AM starting Sept. 9 and every other weekend for a long group run in varying locations throughout the Jacksonville area: Downtown, Ortega, Orange Park, San Marco, Riverside, and Town Center. Saturday formal group runs are scheduled for September 9, 16, 30, October 7, 21, November 4, 18. Being present at any particular training event or day is not a requirement to benefit from the class.

    TRAINING CLASS COACH

    The class is conducted by Jennifer DeSantis.  She is a certified Level 1 RRCA Running Coach and a fitness coach who has worked with people of all levels training for various events. She has raced numerous races from 5Ks (3.1) to Marathons (26.2) across the country. In addition to Jennifer,  there will be pace group leaders providing additional guidance and encouragement.

    Did you know that every night in Jacksonville about 3,000 men, women and children are homeless? That is a staggering number. If you are reading this, you are probably not one of them. - our membership is generally pretty well off! I’ve seen the fancy running clothes and shoes you wear!

     So, why not take some time to give back to our community? At JTC, we are committed to making Jacksonville a better place to live. And serving those who need a hand is a great way to do it. The Sulzbacher Center is an incredible resource for the homeless and not only offers meals 7 days a week, 365 days a year, they provide health care, children programs, job placement, and life skill programs. They are truly helping folks restore their lives.

     We are seeking 12-15 volunteers to cook and serve dinner at the Sulzbacher Center, Saturday, November 11th.

     Absolutely no experience needed! Just bring your positive energy and willing hands, as well as any gently used running shoes you would like to donate to Sulzbacher residents.

     Cooking shift is from 3:00pm-5:30pm; serving shift is from 5:30pm-7:00pm (you can select one or both shifts).

    41TH ANNUAL THE LAST GASP

    About The Race: Begun in December 1977 as an English-style true cross-country race, our 5k competition for individuals and teams has become renowned for its unique, challenging course on the campus of Jacksonville University. This year is the 41th Last Gasp, and to celebrate the entry fee for members who pre-register is just $5! Spikes may be worn.


    Entry Fees through 12/28: JTC Running members online $5. Members paper entry fee, $7. Non-members online, $20; paper $25. Non-member fee includes one year membership in JTC running, a $20 value.

    What Do You Get? And, an amazing post-race party at JU’s Bartlett Kinne Center, a short walk from the finish line!

    Age Groups: 13-under, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54,

    55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-over.

    Team Competition: 5 to run, 4 to score. Usual cross-country scoring. Team members must all be individually entered. Awards for first male and female teams.

    About The Club: Originally named The Jacksonville Track Club, JTC Running began on October 27, 1975. Since that day we have been dedicated to the betterment of our sport, be it cross-country, road or track. Our events include, the Gate River Run, Tijuana Flats Summer Beach Run, The Guana Back to Nature Trail Races, The John TenBroeck Memorial Winter Beach Run, a quality Track Meet Series and The Last Gasp. Our club is “over the hill” now and we want everyone to stay after the race and help us celebrate this important landmark. The party is free and open to all. You must be present in order to win one of the many cash raffle prizes.
